Who?

Who is NiallOK?

NiallOK is Niall O’Keeffe. Or Níall Ó Caoímh “as Gaeilge” (in Irish). That’s me, that is.

I’m a radio presenter, producer, newsreader and editor living in the village of Donabate in Dublin, Ireland. Those who know me from around the village may not believe that , but that’s either because they don’t listen to the radio much or because my real ‘big break’ has yet to come. They probably just know me as the weekend bar manager in Smyths Pub.

Still… I’m currently studying media (with a focus on radio) in Ballyfermot College and am nearly finished my Diploma there. I’m quite experienced in radio, having done plenty of presentation, production, research, news reading and editing and voice-overs in my time. Most recently, I’ve been News Editor for temporary pilot station RealRadio 100.3 and presenter and ‘Christmas Stories’ reader for ChristmasFM – both in Dublin. You may also have heard me on i105-107 briefly. Radio is where I’m going to be.

I was born and grew up in Limerick – a fact I’m fiercely proud of. Having moved to Dublin at the age of 13 and also lived in Ardee and Dundalk, I’m now back with my family in Donabate – for now.

I’ve been engaged twice but never married. I drive a cranky 10 year old Fiat Punto and I still need my GPS whenever I venture onto Dublin’s south side. While I’m not big into sport really, I support Sporting Fingal and Liverpool FC (part time!) and Munster Rugby Club (full time!). I’m also a freelance DJ, doing the odd parties, functions, etc. and an experienced web developer/designer.

Very good… And why the blog?

Well, like a lot of personal blogs, this one falls mostly into the category of a scrapbook – a repository of observations and interesting links to other stuff online, while occasionally featuring personal stories from my own life. I honestly only write it for myself, but if it actually keeps anyone else entertained or provokes people into responding and commenting, all the better!

I’ve always enjoyed reading and writing but due to a number of commitments and other things, I’ve found myself blogging a fair bit less recently- a situation I’m trying to remedy! Writing keeps the mind exercised – and my mind, like most – certainly needs it!

There may be a slight radio influence on this blog… for which I make no apologies… :)

Hey, don’t I know you? Didn’t you used to work for a web development agency? …a big shouty Australian retailer? …a mobile phone store? …a hotel in Meath? …etc. ?

Yes, yes, yes and yes… I did all of those things… some of them were very much beneficial, some of them were a waste of time… but all the same, I’m feeling much better now, thanks. in the dark
