Remember Crasher Squirrel? – the cheeky little rodent who popped up to say ‘hi’ in a Canadian couple’s holiday snap?

Well now, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome… Crasher Seal!

What a happy looking little fella! … As The Huffington Post says… imagine the penguins’ surprise when they went to pick up their pictures!

Space Shuttle Endeavour passes over Ireland

The Space Shuttle Endeavour took off successfully at 6.03pm US Eastern Time this evening. I watched it taking off live on Sky News (and BBC News 24) and within 20 minutes it was passing over Ireland. Had the alarm not been set in the house already and people gone to bed, I’d have been out with my camera, trying to get some pictures or footage of my own. By all accounts (on twitter), I’ve missed out by not seeing it with my own eyes.

Jamie Lawrence (“hopeless” on twitter) posted this picture of the shuttle passing over Cork to twitpic: Space Shuttle Endeavour
and here’s another snap of it, which appears on Gerard Cunningham’s site (found via Robert Dougan):

Since my trip to Zakynthos last month (which was originally supposed to be as a summer of work but just ended up as a pretty awesome 2 week holiday), I’ve been meaning to upload a few of the nice photos I took … but just haven’t gotten around to it,.. until now.

I would have taken a lot more photos (and videos) but I felt that a lot of the whole experience was quite private & personal and was best kept in my head as a memory. I was never going to put all of the photos online anyway :)

… so… eh… yeah! – here’s a few to check out:

Song of the Moment – Blog Awards Special: Babybird – You’re Gorgeous

I know the song is over a decade old, but since that fateful second that the first (who was far from the last) person in the crowd at the Irish Blog Awards in Cork shouted out “You’re GORGEOUS!” at someone on stage, it’s been playing over and over in my brain. It’s one of those songs that, when a DJ plays it, you think “Oh…man! …What a TUNE! I haven’t heard it in ages! (etc. etc.)” and you bop along… and it brings soppy memories flooding back…

Anyway, “You’re GORGEOUS!” became quite the catchphrase for Saturday night’s proceedings… as this picture of Grandad (taken by Donncha, doctored by Twenty) fondly recalls:

So!… A simple blog post for today, as it’s about all my brain can muster after another day of dopey tiredness (and football… hey, I scored a winning goal tonight! Hurrah!) Here’s the video for the song of the moment, the song that’s been stuck in my head since that fateful night (although I can’t for the life of me remember if DJ Brian Greene played it at the aftershow disco… I was probably too busy jumping on the bouncy castle…)

Here it is: Babybird’s lovely little ditty – “You’re Gorgeous“. Enjoy!

A Dick and a Bush

wWatched “W.” recently – the Oliver Stone biopic of George W. Bush.

I thought Josh Brolin was excellent in it, taking on Bush’s mannerisms and foibles brilliantly, but I thought the film overall, while good, was a little too sympathetic to the ex-president and could have taken a tougher line.

Powell came out of it well, Rumsfeld came across badly, while Cheney seemed to be quite the conniving little shit…

I was also slightly surprised that the film didn’t really deal much with 9/11… but anyway…

Moving on – today I saw this photo on the New York Times web site (linked with a story about a bit of a falling out between the boss and his ‘vice’)… and one thing struck me…

Cheney & Bush

… and that was that it has to be the oddest and freakiest photo of Dick Cheney I’ve ever seen!… and most unlikely photos to be taken, in fairness… so I’ve asked on twitpic for some good captions… and so far so good ;) Keep ‘em coming!
