In the last week or so…

  • My car gave up. Just decided that it can’t be arsed going any faster than 30-odd km/h. Luckily, this happened after I’d gotten off the motorway and was only a couple of miles from home. A mechanic friend of mine is having a look at it tomorrow. Personally, I think the clutch is knackered, but I know less about how cars work than I know about how womens’ brains work (i.e.: very little at all)!
  • I DJ’d for a 21’st birthday party here in Donabate and, for the first time, used a big screen for music videos and messages to the party goers… was great craic altogether and the punters had a feckin’ brilliant time… one bad thing though was that the pub I was gigging in (and leaving my gear in over-night) was broken into later in the night (a while after closing)… by someone who was there at the party that evening but, luckily for me, nothing of mine was touched.
  • I got a bunch of new PS3 games … loving the Simpsons game to bits – hilarious and fun, am stuck on Resistance 2 – killing alien scum in America, and getting stuck-in (online) in Farcry 2 – going to deepest Africa, meeting interesting people, and then killing them ;) … I’m not much of a gamer to be honest – and I haven’t even touched Little Big Planet or Need For Speed: Undercover yet, 2 days after buying them as I’ve also been busy with…
  • College assignments - they’re piling up! I just got my ‘Practical Skills’ (Studio Operations) one finished and I’ve to finish my ‘Broadcast Voice’ one (bit of paperwork to do) but just got ‘Media Law’ and ‘Marketing’ assignments today and have a group assignment for ‘Radio Management’ (applying for a broadcasting license from the B.C.I.) to get stuck into A.S.A.P.!
  • Speaking of college, I got confirmation from Newstalk that I’ll be with them for work experience at the end of the month, working on the Tom Dunne Show – so I’m very much looking forward to that… should be a good experience working on a busy national station!

I’m pretty certain that’s all my news for now… right now I’m downloading the Windows 7 Beta… and I’m not really sure why… It’s thundering along at around the 300kB/s mark though, which is nice ;)

Post Xmas Catch-up

Last couple of days have been kinda mental… apart from Christmas Day when I just chilled out and spent some quality time with the family and no-one else – as it should be. On St. Stephens’ Day, it was fairly busy in work – and we nearly ran out of beer due to a gas compressor problem! (only nearly… it was fixed)

Yesterday I was DJ’ing a pretty big house party in Ardee (a “housecooling”- clearly the opposite to a housewarming – they’re moving out). I started at about 7.45pm and finally wound down at roughly 4.45am (yes… a full 9 hours later!) Everything got played – from hip-hop to dance, punk, country, alternative, metal and even some slow smoochy numbers and a bit of trad. At 5am, someone got a guitar out and the party continued for another 2 hours or so until I went and passed out in a bedroom until 2pm. Now I’ve work at 5pm… Oh joy.

Hope all your Christmasses were all you wanted them to be. Mine was a blast in some ways – but, most importantly – was time well spent – with family and good friends.

Role Models and Soundcheck – what a night

It’s 2pm, I’m just awake a short while, and I’m … in recovery. I had a great night last night and all (mostly anyway) thanks to UnaRocks (who I met and chatted with briefly – and yes, she does rock!).

The movie (with Paul Rudd, Seann William Scott and the extraordinarily hot Elizabeth Banks) was just bloody hilarious – everyone should go see it when it goes on general release on Jan 1st. I don’t think a minute passed during watching it where I wasn’t laughing out loud. Here’s the (rude) trailer:

XXXMas Soundcheck was… bonkers… and great fun! It took me ages to not be the guy standing in the corner talking to nobody (and actually “tweeting” on my mobile). Una herself gives a pretty accurate summary of the night here. There were photos but I didn’t get into any of them.

There’s not much more I can say… until my brain decides to start working again. Crackin’ night!

Hello SDLP Youth… How are you?

It was nice to get a link from the SDLP Youth web site.

I only got it because I linked to a video on YouTube where two Canadian radio comedians prank Sarah Palin – and the youngsters in the SDLP saw it (-and apparrently, that’s the kind of thing the SDLP Youth enjoy!).
