Time to turn off Fox News?

Most Americans I know would know to take Fox News with a pinch of salt about the size of the salt lake in Larnaca but many take their often wildly inaccurate and opinionated tripe seriously, so I was interested to see this reply from MSNBC – who are directly apportioning some of the blame for the extraordinarily controversial murder of abortionist, Dr. George Tiller onto Fox News. Tiller was assassinated on May 31st (just 3 days ago) as he served as an usher during the Sunday morning service at his church in Wichita, Kansas.

As this video shows, Fox News – and particularly Bill O’Reilly – constantly labelled Tiller as “Tiller the Baby Killer” and regularly gave him more coverage than was necessarily merited from a journalistic point of view – saying he “killed thousands,.. thousands of late term foetuses without explanation”… “has blood on his hands”… “was acquitted today of murdering babies – there’s got to be a special place in hell for this guy”.

Are Fox complicit in the murder? Are they guilty of incitement to hatred? You decide.

Their finger is truly on the pulse of the world

They are the Onion, and they know what’s foremost in everyone’s mind. Nevermind Obama’s administration, nevermind the recession, – the one question everyone is wondering about … Are reality shows setting unrealistic standards for skanks?

The debate rages on…

(Oh, mind you, there’s a brief Obama mention at the end…)

I gotta have more cowbell!

Didn’t see this classic Saturday Night Live sketch the first time around (almost 9 years ago) and I don’t remember the phrase “gotta have more cowbell” getting into the ‘zeitgeist’… but am heartily laughing my ass off now at it… and now you can Cowbellify (yeah, it’s a word…) your own MP3’s at MoreCowbell.DJ.

So, eh… yeah! Enjoy!

In the last week or so…

  • My car gave up. Just decided that it can’t be arsed going any faster than 30-odd km/h. Luckily, this happened after I’d gotten off the motorway and was only a couple of miles from home. A mechanic friend of mine is having a look at it tomorrow. Personally, I think the clutch is knackered, but I know less about how cars work than I know about how womens’ brains work (i.e.: very little at all)!
  • I DJ’d for a 21’st birthday party here in Donabate and, for the first time, used a big screen for music videos and messages to the party goers… was great craic altogether and the punters had a feckin’ brilliant time… one bad thing though was that the pub I was gigging in (and leaving my gear in over-night) was broken into later in the night (a while after closing)… by someone who was there at the party that evening but, luckily for me, nothing of mine was touched.
  • I got a bunch of new PS3 games … loving the Simpsons game to bits – hilarious and fun, am stuck on Resistance 2 – killing alien scum in America, and getting stuck-in (online) in Farcry 2 – going to deepest Africa, meeting interesting people, and then killing them ;) … I’m not much of a gamer to be honest – and I haven’t even touched Little Big Planet or Need For Speed: Undercover yet, 2 days after buying them as I’ve also been busy with…
  • College assignments - they’re piling up! I just got my ‘Practical Skills’ (Studio Operations) one finished and I’ve to finish my ‘Broadcast Voice’ one (bit of paperwork to do) but just got ‘Media Law’ and ‘Marketing’ assignments today and have a group assignment for ‘Radio Management’ (applying for a broadcasting license from the B.C.I.) to get stuck into A.S.A.P.!
  • Speaking of college, I got confirmation from Newstalk that I’ll be with them for work experience at the end of the month, working on the Tom Dunne Show – so I’m very much looking forward to that… should be a good experience working on a busy national station!

I’m pretty certain that’s all my news for now… right now I’m downloading the Windows 7 Beta… and I’m not really sure why… It’s thundering along at around the 300kB/s mark though, which is nice ;)

Ban those words!

Heard about this on Phantom 105.2 today. Lake Superior State University have just published their "34th annual List of Words to Be Banished from the Queen’s English for Mis-use, Over-use and General Uselessness" (although… what the feck the Queen has to do with the English they speak in America I don’t know…)

Anyway, I find myself pretty much in agreement with the majority of it (with a couple of possible additions).

The list goes like this:

Green, Carbon footprint/offsetting, Maverick, First Dude, Bailout, Wall/Main Street, ’something’-monkey (like script-monkey, code-monkey, etc.), <3, Icon/Iconic, Game Changer, Staycation, Desperate search, Not so much, Winner of five nominations, It's that time of the year again

I’d add the suffix “gate” … as in “Bertiegate” for the Bertie Ahern cash in the mattress controversy, “Soccergate” for the various FAI controversies, “Clintongate” for the time Bill shagged Monica, etc. etc. – Adding “gate” to a word to indicate that IT’S A CONTROVERSY, GOSH DARN IT is just … well … retarded. The Watergate controversy was so called because of events that took place in the Watergate Hotel – putting “gate” at the end of other words is just meaningless and silly – like most of the words in the above list.

Oh and that Internet-spawned habit of the “- much?” question (i.e.: changing a question such as “are you ignorant?” to “ignorant, much?” – often accompanied by a smiley face). Hate that. Let’s ban that too.

And maybe “That’s so hot”. (*shakes fist at Paris Hilton*).

Agree, much? :)
