During my two weeks in i105-107 (I was there for a week of college work experience, but stayed longer out of choice), I was working on news – this involved writing copy, doing interviews (including Eddie Hobbes!) & editing down clips from them, doing vox-pops and putting packages together (including voicing them). They liked the packages well enough to actually air them during the main (12.45pm) iWitness news bulletin… which was nice :)

Here’s some of them:

i105-107

i105-107

The new high-tech youth oriented radio station for the north-east of Ireland, iRadio’s “i105-107″ – sister station to the north-west’s i102-104, launches this evening.

It can be heard on 104.7FM and 105.0FM in Dublin (although we in Dublin aren’t actually the target market…) and on various frequencies between 105 and 107FM around the north-east and online on i105107.ie, where their countdown clock shows that there’s currently just under 2 hours to go (so it would appear they’re going live at 7.30pm). Correction: their web site went live at 7.30pm – the station launches at 8.30pm.

I wish them all the best of luck and I’m looking forward to hearing them finally take to the airwaves after what I know was many months of very hard work putting the station together.

I was involved in the ‘workshop’ section of their recruitment process myself and met a lot of really great people there. They should really shake up the market in the North-East!

[EDIT]: The live launch can be watched HERE!

Gardai shot in Swords

Yes… well I mean “shot” in the photographic sense.

Today, a large number of local Gardaí were on hand for photo-shoots and interiviews and to give out a few hundred leaflets in the streets of Swords in Co. Dublin.

The reason behind it is their ongoing investigation into the attack which took place in the early hours of last Sunday morning in Jacko Park in the town, during which a 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted leaving her with serious head and facial injuries.

Crimestoppers are offering a €10,000 reward to track down the culprit – who is aged between 18 and 25 years of age, is 5ft 5ins to 5ft 8ins in height, has dark hair and sallow skin, and was wearing a black baseball cap and a black zipped hoodie at the time.

Plenty of media people were present, with newspaper photographers, TV3 reporters and an interviewer from FM104 (the girl in black with the red mic) all there when I was passing.

More info from the Irish times, here. Hopefully something good will come from this and Gardaí will get some solid leads and find the asshole in question. Swords Gardaí can be contacted at 01-666 4700 or via the free Garda Confidential Number 1-800-666-111.

Dear Dad

A father passing by his son’s bedroom, was astonished to see the bed was nicely made, and that everything was picked up and tidy. Then, he saw an envelope, propped up prominently on the pillow. It was addressed, ‘Dad.’

With the worst premonition, he opened the envelope and read the letter, with trembling hands.

Dear Dad,

It is with great regret and sorrow that I’m writing to you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend, because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mam and yourself.

I’ve been finding real passion with Jacinta, and she is so nice, but I knew you would not approve of her, because of all her piercings’, tattoos, her tight Motorcycle clothes, and because she is so much older than I am. Oh, and she’s from Leitrim.

But it’s not only the passion, Dad. She’s pregnant. Jacinta said that we will be very happy. She has her own caravan in the woods, and a stack of firewood for the whole winter. We share a dream of having many more children.

Jacinta has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn’t really hurt anyone. We’ll be growing it for ourselves, and trading it with the the other people living with us in the commune, for all the speed, crack and E tabs we want.

In the meantime, we’ll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS, so Jacinta can get better. She sure deserves it!Don’t worry Dad, I’m 15, and I know how to take care of myself. Someday, I’m sure we’ll be back to visit, so you can get to know your many grandchildren.

Love, your son, Brian.

P.S. Dad, none of the above is true. I’m really over at Deco’s house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than the Leaving Cert results sitting on the kitchen table.

Who wants to live forever?

Let’s say, for arguments sake, that I was offered the chance by some all-powerful and omnipotent deity to live forever. Despite the extreme mental strain that would cause (the weirdness and disturbing nature of seeing everyone you know die one by one … forever – for one thing), I actually reckon I’d be up to the task and would (reluctantly) take it on.

Of course, I’m not about to be offered that any time soon, and I’m now half way through my 32′nd year of my limited mortal tenure on this planet. As if I didn’t feel old enough already, it’s a coincidence that a billion seconds is just a couple of months shy of 32 years, so I recently took a wild stab at a guess out of pure curiosity at when I myself would hit a billion seconds of age and it would appear I was about a week off (which isn’t bad in fairness) with my guess, as the billion second calculator at BrainBashers.com worked out that I’ll pass the monumental milestone on the afternoon of August 10th.

I feel like I should mark the occasion with a party or something! ;)

I’m sure I’ll make it to the two billion mark (April 18th, 2040 – 63 years and 5 months old)… although I wouldn’t be so certain about making it to three billion (St. Stephen’s Day, 2071 – 95 years old).

As for living forever, … well … we’ll see, eh?
