Blogorrah allow their domain name to expire

It’s nearly 3 weeks after the event, I know – but this one kinda slipped by me… We all knew Blogorrah was pretty dead anyway (and some of us had stopped caring, to be honest), but now it looks like the site really is definitely gone for good…

Why? Well, the domain blogorrah.com expired on February 2nd at 2.13pm and wasn’t renewed by the famous celebrity obsessed bloggers with the caustic wit and unusual charm (… oh dear!), so was quickly snapped up by some cybersquatting company who are sitting on it and turned it into this:

blogorrah.jpg

Sad indeed…

It’s not just the final nail in the coffin, mind you … it’s the final flower placed at the gravestone after the last sod of dirt has been patted down, after a tonne of it has been thrown over the well varnished, well filled and fully nailed shut coffin, which has been lying six feet under for many a month. Or something like that, anyway…

  • Despite all the rumours that Google were working on a rival to the iPhone, they didn’t make a mobile phone… Oh no! … They made a mobile phone ‘platform’! Yeah…! …’Scuse me.

  • Tribune Business Editor fired for… quoting a blogger? (via Damien)

  • What do names mean? What should you name your brand new bébé? Let BabyNamey help you decide!

  • Keep an eye on this one… The Chancer – it’s the new Blogorrah, don’t you know…

  • Add Wi-Fi to any camera that takes an SD card (via Donncha)

  • I’m trying this out (and admittedly not getting very far with it…) – Make your Ubuntu desktop look just like Mac OSX. Smart.

  • From 138 votes so far, 62% AGREE with the new learner driver laws.

  • The Irish School of Motoring have their own blog… and even I got a mention on it (for ShiteDrivers.com of course).

  • Couldn’t find an article for this, but trust me… it’s true… while Damien has already blogged about the impending 3 SkypePhone launch, there’s more – 3 Ireland are also launching the Nokia N95 into the Irish market in the middle of November. Yes, they’ve finally finished testing and have decided it’s good enough for their network. Not sure of prices but it’s looking like selling for around €239 €329 on the highest (€99 per month) price plan – and for more on the lower plans. (Update: It’ll also be available on pre-pay for a whopping €599, and will be €499 on the lowest pay monthly tariff, with lower prices on the higher tariffs).

  • And finally, a couple of entertaining videos:

6′5″ Jeremy Clarkson drives the worlds smallest car to work.

CSI:Dundalk – hope they make some more of these!

    Dear Blog,

Sorry buddy – I’ve been neglecting you. Had a mad busy/fun/intense couple of weeks. Back in good old Dundalk now.

    Still, no excuse, eh?…

I’ll return to "active" blogging soon… In the meantime, let me just say…

  • Well done Ray and JP… oh, and while ye feckers were living it up in Kilkee (the 3-month-a-year haunt of my youth), I was on a plane heading to a place almost east enough to be the middle-east (but not quite)… which was just about enough to kill off my extreme jealousy…
  • Thanks again Rick, that new web site of mine seems to have taken on a life of its own… Thanks also to Lyn, Value Ireland, Smemon, Bound for Duty and plenty of others for their links.
  • Jesus, Sorcha… sort your gallstones out… and congrats on finally getting that uniform of yours, complete with “upside-down watch”…
  • OH LOOK… BLOGORRAH STILL ISN’T BACK. Shock…

… and finally, I can say I was there

    Famagusta - the forbidden zone

Will explain all (… sort of …) soon…

  • What’s so special about Blogorrah?

A recent post on One for the Road says “good fucking riddance” to the disappearance of the Blogorrah website in a cheeky, well crafted and smart-arsed torrent of words. To be honest, it’s made me look at myself and wonder why I jumped on the bandwagon and lent my name to the "Bring back Blogorrah" campaign in the first place.

The "campaign" has lost momentum (probably because of the Blogorrah lads announcing it WOULD be back – and I’m not sure why I was happy to see that)… but now it (the "campaign", shows no more real signs of actually being alive than that very dead tree from Aldi planted in my back garden, which makes me wonder how much the other so-called "campaigners" really cared.

Here’s their new badge, courtesy of One for the Road:

    Nice, huh?

Frankly, I never really followed or kept up with Blogorrah, and honestly, I never really found it entirely hilarious or all that entertaining, not being a fan of “goss and dross” about so-called celebrities/politicians/etc. As I said, I just jumped on the bandwagon at the last minute.

It was hardly the Weekly World News now, was it? (How sad were you REALLY when you heard about their demise?)

Perhaps someone can fill me in – I dunno – what IS so special about Blogorrah? Should I give a fuck? – and if so, WHY?

I’m off to read some Twenty Major, find another bandwagon and do my best to resist jumping onto it… – as for this "campaign" … count me out.

Great blogs of our time, Part Two

Stephen Boyce from Cork has a lot to say about a lot of things, including comedy, music, sport, bad driving, and the people he considers “fuckers”. Nice. Oh, and he’s the first signed up author on ShiteDrivers.com! \o/

Here’s an ocassionaly crude, occasionally hilarious commentary on music, media and culture in Ireland. One for the road. They’re not fans of Blogorrah or the current movement to bring it back and honestly- I’m starting to agree with them!

Rick O’Shea of 2FM fame and patron of Brainwave, the national Epilepsy association – he has a lot more to say than just what you hear on the air. Now also with added YouTubey goodness.

Can’t mention one without the other, I suppose. Ray Foley’s blog is sometimes entertaining, sometimes funny, sometimes self-indulgent, sometimes full of shite. But hey, you could say the same about my own (or just about anyone’s) blog! Definitely worth the odd look. His radio show’s pretty good though.

The ‘Swearing Lady’ from the Arse End of Ireland has her views on Ireland, celebrity, politics, culture, music, and so on – which she delivers with a brilliantly caustic wit.

Coming directly from Belfast, Letter to America is a well presented comedy video podcast which is well worth checking out.

Mark Webster – he’s linked to me, I’ll link to him. He likes technology, and is the IT Advertising Manager for the Sunday Business post, where he runs their Computers in Business blog.
